【好用口語】I'm through doing sth

每到暑假結束以後就是Alex最開心的時候,這絕對不是因為我是工作狂的關係!!!這是因為我又會有很多好看的影劇開始續播新的一季了!

以準備雅思或者托福的口說來說,【摩登家庭】真的是一個非常棒的影集,裡面有超多的片語或者說法可以讓大家依樣畫葫蘆。而且畢竟整齣劇就是在講一般的日常生活,所以裡面的許多用法當然可以讓大家很自然的搬到考試上啦。

今天要來看的是 “sb’s through doing sth.” 以及 “sb’s through with sth.” 這個好用的用法。

當大家想要表達【某人已經對某事感到厭倦、受夠了】的時候,這個就是一個很好用的句型 grin 表情符號

比方說在第7季第1集的Modern Family,Haley的爸媽 (Phil and Claire) 因為太喜歡干預正妹大女兒的感情世界,所以讓她錯失了一些良機良緣,因此終於感嘆:We are through meddling in your love life. (我們不打算再介入你的感情生活了!) (OS: 但大家也知道爸媽都只是說說而已哈哈)

所以如果今天有人跟你說【我決定從此再也不要賭博了!】
就可以說【I’m through with gambling!】。
但如果你不相信他的話,可以回他/她【我再也不想聽你在那邊鬼扯了!】
用本帖的句型就是【I’m through listening to all your crazy crap!】
或者更簡單一些就是【I’m through with all your crazy crap!】

--------------------

Every year after the summer break I'm always very delighted. This is by no means because I'm obsessed with work or something, but because this is the time when many riveting TV series start airing.

In terms of exam preparation for IELTS or TOEFL, Modern Family can be a really good choice for test takers. This is because there are abundant examples of idiomatic phrases and expressions that they can just pick up and use in exams. After all, the episodes are based on real-life situations, so it seems natural to apply the phrases that fit the context of an exam.

Today I’d like to talk about the use of “sb’s through doing sth,” and “sb’s through with sth.”

◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆

These two sets simply mean “sb’s fed up with sth,” or “sb no longer feels like doing sth.”

For example, in the first episode of Season 7 of Modern Family, Haley's parents, Phil and Claire, decide never to meddle in their daughter’s love life, which has more often than not ruined many of her good chances of a smooth love match. So they sigh, “We are through meddling in your love life.” (But as we all know parents don’t always mean what they say.)

Anyway, if today someone tells you that “I don’t want to gamble anymore!” This can be expressed using the pattern that we’ve just learned: “I’m through with gambling!”

But if you don’t really buy what he or she says, you can say, “I’m through listening to all your crazy crap,” or simply “I’m through with all your crazy crap!” Ha.
